The results of the presidential election have been announced as Donald Trump emerged victorious over Hilary Clinton against all expectations. The Republican candidate made history despite the series of controversy, criticisms, sexist and racist behaviors as well as the lack of political experience.
Donald Trump picked up surprise victories in North Carolina, Ohio and Florida leaving his stunning upset to the outcome of the results in Rust Belt states of the industrial mid-west.
Trump also led in Wisconsin and Michigan and at about 02:30am, Trump was declared the winner of Wisconsin. The Republican exceeded the standard 270 Electoral College votes needed to secure the presidency.
The president-elect left his towers to address the public where he revealed Hilary had called him to congratulate him.
He said;
"Sorry to keep you waiting, complicated business, complicated business".
"I have just received a call from Secretary Clinton. She congratulated us – it’s about us and our victory – and I congratulated her on a very hard-fought campaign".
"Now it is time for Americans to bind the wounds of division, It is time for us to become together as one united people … I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans".
Trump won by 48% of the vote securing no less than 57,600,953 votes compared to the 47% won by Hilary Clinton who secured a total of 56,855,614 votes.
Republicans also won a majority of the US Senate as well as the US House of Representatives.
Against all odds, the Republican edged his name into history as the 45th president of the United States. However, his appointment has been greeted with a lot of disdain from many who believe the 70-year old is unfit to rule a nation as powerful as the United States of America.
Trump is scheduled to resume office on January 20th, 2017.
Congratulations to Donald Trump on becoming America's 45th president.
