A PACKED plane has crashed into a vehicle on the runway at Hong Kong airport.

The Cathay Dragon passenger plane was at the Hong Kong airport when one of the plan’s boosters hit the service van, taking off the vehicle’s roof and narrowly missing the driver.

Moment van crashes into path of a packed passenger plane at Hong Kong

Police told South China Morning Post that the plane's engine had crashed into the van, saying: "The driver who was trapped on board the light goods vehicle was rescued.

"He was injured in the head and shoulder and taken conscious to North Lantau Hospital for treatment."

Five fire engines and two ambulances were also called to the scene.

An Airport Authority spokesman said: "The plane was about to leave Hong Kong for Penang when it collided with a (China Aircraft Services) vehicle near apron 25."

The right side of the van was badly damaged, leaving the left end also damaged.

The Civil Aviation Department is now investigating.

Emergency crews rushed to pull the driver out of the wreckage

The disrupted flight, Flight KA691, is understood to not have impacted the flight times of other planes at the airport.

The flight itself has been delayed for at least three years.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene to inspect the damage, helping the driver out of the van.

The area was cordoned off.
